To end French and Indian War in Pennsylvania, General John Forbes built a road across Pennsylvania.  This road opened the west to increased settlement cg4.jpgand gave the colony of Pennsylvania an economic advantage over its rival, Virginia.  The summer institute will analyze the importance of the road and the economic vitality it offered to the colony.

Join the participants of the summer institute as we view the historic significance of the journey by visiting portions of the Forbes Road from Lancaster to Ft. Ligonier and points in between.  This institute will be housed at Shippensburg University; however there will be four days travel (planned) throughout  Pennsylvania as well as an overnight in Bedford, PA.
