Dear Educators -

Unfortunately the Pennsylvania Department of Education does not plan to continue with the Governor's Institute for Social Studies Educators in 2009.

These intensive week-long graduate credit programs offered educators an interdisciplinary experience drawing on the Academic Standards for Civics and Government, Economics, Geography, and History as well as infusing standards for Arts and Humanities, Mathematics, and Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening.  Other academic standards areas were also addressed.

The Governor’s Institute for Social Studies Educators provided rich content and a variety of learning opportunities to expand the knowledge base of teachers while demonstrating successful methods for engaging students.  As can be seen from the links on the right side of the page, these Institutes took advantage of the rich culture of Pennsylvania.  Each link shares some information about prior institutes.

It was my pleasure to develop high quality educational experiences for the 12 Governor's Institutes for Social Studies Educators.  Working with great teachers from thoughout the Commonwealth was a privilege.
